Resolution must be 300 DPI minimum at final print size. This is non-negotiable for quality printing. Compare total landed cost, not unit price. Packaging cost includes the unit price, tooling or plate charges, shipping, duties (if international), and minimum order quantity. Evaluate lead times realistically. Custom packaging typically takes 4 to 8 weeks from artwork approval to delivery for domestic suppliers, and 8 to 16 weeks for international suppliers (primarily from China). Add 1 to 2 weeks for artwork revisions and proofing. Plan your packaging timeline backward from your retail launch date and add a buffer. Domestic vs. international sourcing is a real tradeoff. International suppliers (primarily in China and India) offer 30 to 50 percent lower per-unit costs on most packaging formats. But you trade that savings for longer lead times, higher shipping costs, larger MOQs, communication challenges across time zones, and quality control risk. For your first production run, domestic suppliers are almost always the right choice.
