Trade Shows & Events
Trade shows are the largest discretionary line in many emerging CPG budgets and the one with the widest variance in return. Two brands can spend the same amount on the same show and one comes home with buyer meetings and a distributor conversation while the other comes home with a stack of business cards and no follow-up. The difference is almost never the booth.
What separates them is the work that happens before and after. Buyer meetings at a major show are booked weeks in advance, not walked into. The brands that win have a target list, outreach that started well before the show, and a specific ask. The follow-up matters at least as much — most show leads decay within two weeks, and the brand that sends a real proposal on the Monday after beats the one that sends a generic thank-you a month later.
These posts cover show selection and whether the big ones justify their cost at your stage, budgeting realistically including the costs that are easy to miss, booking buyer meetings ahead of time, booth and sampling logistics, and a follow-up process that converts conversations into orders.
